Americans United and its co-counsel organizations filed a brief with a federal trial court today, calling for the court to issue a final, permanent injunction against defendants in the ongoing Alabama marriage equality case. The move comes a day after Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore declared that all state probate judges must stop providing marriage licenses to same-sex couples.
From the brief:
In light of ongoing attempts by Chief Justice Moore to direct probate court judges to continue to adhere to Alabama law that this Court has declared unconstitutional, Plaintiffs submit the Administrative Order as supplemental authority in support of the need for a permanent injunction and final judgment against all defendants.
AU and its clients have already been award a preliminary injunction in the case, but Judge Moore's actions have proven that a more permanent solution is in order.
